David Geringas is one of the most versatile musicians of our time. The cellist and conductor has an unusually broad repertoire from the earliest baroque up to contemporary music. Before joining the Guarneri Quartet in 1964 he performed with the Bach Aria Group, Guilet String Quartet, New Music Quartet, and Marlboro Trio. Mstislav Rostropovich
Mstislav Rostropovich is internationally acclaimed and acknowledged as the world’s greatest living cellist. He has given countless memorable performances and has inspired the world’s leading composers to enlarge and enrich the standard cello repertoire with works specially composed for and dedicated to him. These include works by Britten, Bliss, Khachaturian, Lutoslawski, Prokofiev and Shostakovich. Rostropovich was soloist in the premieres of Prokofiev’s second Cello Concerto in 1952, Shostakovich’s two Cello Concertos in 1959 and 1966, Britten’s Cello Symphony in 1964 and Bliss’s Cello Concerto in 1970. Many other works have been written for him and today his repertoire includes more than 50 concertos, ranging from the baroque, through the classical and romantic periods, to the avant-garde. As a cellist, Rostropovich is noted for his commanding technique and intense, visionary playing.

The most eminent Croatian cellist and professor. Valter Despalj comes from a prominent family of musicians from Zadar (Croatia). He started learning the cello in Zadar and then went on to study at the Zagreb Music Academy and at the Julliard School of Music in New York. He recieved further training in Moscow and also in master courses with Pablo Casals, Paul Olefsky, Pierre Fournier and Andre Navarra.
In 1972 he started his international solo career by giving concerts at famous concert halls such as: the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Kennedy Center in Washington, the Mozarteum in Salzburg etc.
He has been a non-resident professor at the University of Massachusetts and the Australian National University, he holds master courses in Austria, Germany, Finland, China and elsewhere, he has been a juror at the international competitions “Tchaikovsky” in Moscow, “J. S. Bach” in Leipsig, “Scheveningen” in the Netherlands, etc.
Wolfgang Boettcher
Wolfgang Boettcher was born in Berlin in 1935. He served under Herbert von Karajan until 1976 as principal cellist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra before taking on his fruitful post as Professor at Berlin’s Conservatory of the Arts.

Yo-Yo Ma
Bom in Paris in 1955 to Chinese parents, Yo-Yo Ma began his cello studies with his father at age 4. The family moved to New York where he studied at The Juilliard School and later at Harvard University, where he also received an honorary doctorate. He received the Avery Fisher Prize in 1978 and more recently the Glenn Gould award.
He is an imaginative, amazingly diverse and versatile artist who has gone beyond standard classical repertoire and many new commissioned works to cross-over projects involving not only other musical styles but also collaborations with other art forms, native Chinese music and its distinctive instruments and the music of the Kalahari bush people in Africa.
